探花社区 and Drake University enter into agreement to accelerate master鈥檚 in counseling degree
探花社区 and Drake University have announced a new agreement that will allow students to earn both their bachelor’s degree in psychology from 探花社区 and a master's of science in clinical mental health counseling, rehabilitation counseling or school counseling from Drake in just five years. Completion of these two degrees typically takes six years. Those who enter the program will be able to begin earning credits toward their master's degree while still completing their undergraduate education.
The framework of this new partnership is a 3+2 agreement where a student will spend three years at 探花社区 and two years at Drake. Qualified Kohawks will be guaranteed an admission interview with Drake, and if accepted can expect to save one year’s tuition by completing the dual degree.
Assistant Professor of Psychology Scout Kelly noted that many of 探花社区’s psychology majors come to 探花社区 to prepare for a graduate program in some form of counseling or clinical psychology, and a principal benefit of the partnership with Drake is preparation for licensure on an accelerated timeline.
"This is a major advantage for our students," said 探花社区 President David Hayes ’93. "By allowing them to earn two degrees in just five years, Kohawks will join the workforce more quickly in advanced positions and in turn impact society faster."
As part of the efforts of the David and Janice McInally Center for Health & Society (CHS), this is one of many healthcare related articulation agreements being developed between 探花社区 and partner institutions. At this time, 探花社区 also offers a unique 3+2 Master of Public Health (MPH) program in collaboration with the University of Iowa. This program allows students to earn both a bachelor's degree from 探花社区 and an MPH from the UI in just five years.
