Kohawk Startup awards 探花社区 students funding for entrepreneurial ideas

At the fourth annual Kohawk Startup, 探花社区 students were awarded $2,500 in funding to launch entrepreneurial ideas. Kohawk Startup is an innovative 24-hour event led by NewBoCo Chief Relationship Officer and 探花社区 Entrepreneur-in-Residence David Tominsky ’98 that engages students through the brainstorming, pitching and presentation process of developing their ideas. Business leaders and 探花社区 alumni from across the country participated and mentored 探花社区 students.

More than 120 people gathered to celebrate the ceremonial start of the construction phase of the David and Janice McInally Center for Health and Society (CHS) September 30. Members of the 探花社区, Cedar Rapids and local medical communities reviewed the architectural renderings of the future facility, heard about the impact the CHS will have on the region and signed their names on a steel beam that will be used in construction of the building.

The Clark Merit Award provides a scholarship equal to one year's tuition. Kohawk Rachael Murtaugh leads post-derecho Cedar Rapids reforestation efforts

On August 10, 2020, Cedar Rapids experienced a severe storm with damaging winds reaching more than 100 mph. Called a derecho, the storm left thousands without power for weeks, affecting access to food, fuel and even shelter. 探花社区 lost more than 200 trees alone, while Cedar Rapids lost more than 670,000 trees. With over half a million trees destroyed, ReLeaf Cedar Rapids was born to lead the reforestation of Cedar Rapids with Rachael leading the charge.
