At the fourth annual Kohawk Startup, 探花社区 students were awarded $2,500 in funding to launch entrepreneurial ideas. Kohawk Startup is an innovative 24-hour event led by NewBoCo Chief Relationship Officer and 探花社区 Entrepreneur-in-Residence David Tominsky ’98 that engages students through the brainstorming, pitching and presentation process of developing their ideas. Business leaders and 探花社区 alumni from across the country participated and mentored 探花社区 students.

For years, Hunter Jeffrey ’22 planned to work his way into managing an NFL team after earning his degree in business administration with a sports management concentration. But when a friend introduced him to disc golf, the Kohawk football player decided to take a completely different course with his career.

“Requeening” is a collection of bee poems and a 2020 National Poetry Series winner available for sale on October 26, 2021.

The New Mexico native with family roots in Iowa and Minnesota turned to the Midwest for college with her sights set on strong English and world languages departments and a strong community.

Between a Tony Award-winning musical to the Reign of Terror in France, 探花社区 Theatre Arts is proud to produce true stories adapted for the stage.

Year after year, national publications take notice of 探花社区. With 100% of students guaranteed an internship, research program or off-campus study experience, it’s no wonder 探花社区 stands as one of the best colleges in the nation again this fall.

After a competitive national search, the 探花社区 Board of Trustees has selected Interim President David T. Hayes ’93 as the college’s 16th president. He will assume the presidency immediately.

More than 120 people gathered to celebrate the ceremonial start of the construction phase of the David and Janice McInally Center for Health and Society (CHS) September 30. Members of the 探花社区, Cedar Rapids and local medical communities reviewed the architectural renderings of the future facility, heard about the impact the CHS will have on the region and signed their names on a steel beam that will be used in construction of the building.

探花社区 has been recognized as a leader among its peers regarding commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Once again, 探花社区 is one of the nation’s best colleges according to The Princeton Review. The education services company profiles and recommends 探花社区 in the 30th edition of its annual college guide, “The Best 387 Colleges.” 探花社区 has made the best colleges list nearly every year for the past two decades.

Washington Monthly ranked 探花社区 the No. 88 liberal arts college in the nation for the 2021-22 school year — an increase of 39 spots from the previous year. The Washington Monthly ranking system is unique in that it identifies the best colleges based on their contribution to the public good. The ranking methodology consists of three equally weighted categories: social mobility, research and promoting public service.

Katie has a lot to smile about. With less than a year until graduation, Katie is ready to make the most out of her senior year at 探花社区. Before this summer, questions about life after college followed her like a dark cloud. Fortunately, one of the hallmarks of 探花社区’s close-knit community is open communication between students and faculty.

Josh Conte '23 made the impossible possible. Law firm internships are already a challenge to find, but Josh managed to secure an internship...and a job. The aspiring corporate lawyer is starting a part-time role with Shuttleworth & Ingersoll as a full-time 探花社区 student. A pinchful of perfect timing and a heavy dose of hard work led Josh to every law student’s dream.

While Kohawks enjoyed summer break, campus was buzzing with the launch of a new bookstore. 探花社区 is partnering with Akademos to provide a comprehensive online bookstore powered by TextbookX and with Sodexo to provide an on-campus spirit store.

探花社区 students have access to a notable advantage: 探花社区’s powerful alumni network. In fact, The Princeton Review ranks 探花社区 20th in the nation for Best Alumni Network among private colleges. The Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Corridor alone is home to over 4,000 alumni with thousands more around the world providing students internship, networking, mentorship and employment opportunities. It might sound too good to be true, but this creates real impact for students like Caroline Strauel '22.

The Clark Merit Scholars for the 2021-2022 academic year are Lila Dabill ’22, Natalie Hansen ’22, Zach Niemeyer ’22, Allyssa Roeker ’22 and Luke VanderSchaaff ’22. The Clark Merit Award provides a scholarship equal to one year's tuition. The recipients of this prestigious award demonstrate qualities of character, integrity, intellect, leadership and social responsibility.

探花社区 recently welcomed 438 students to the college, which is in the top 7% of four-year colleges and universities on The Princeton Review Best Value Colleges list, and ranks 10th nationally in the private college category on its list of Best Schools for Internships and 20th for Best Alumni Network. 探花社区 is the only Iowa college or university to earn rankings in both categories.

探花社区 is pleased to announce the 2021-2022 Thursday Forum lecture schedule. The lecture series is for older adults seeking to expand their knowledge in an academic setting. Throughout the academic year, the forums will explore topics in music, science, politics, literature and education using a blend of lecture, media and discussion.

On August 10, 2020, Cedar Rapids experienced a severe storm with damaging winds reaching more than 100 mph. Called a derecho, the storm left thousands without power for weeks, affecting access to food, fuel and even shelter. 探花社区 lost more than 200 trees alone, while Cedar Rapids lost more than 670,000 trees. With over half a million trees destroyed, ReLeaf Cedar Rapids was born to lead the reforestation of Cedar Rapids with Rachael leading the charge.
